MSC Fisheries in Assessment
Cornish Sardine Fishery
MRAG Americas announces the release of the Final Certification Report for the Cornwall Sardine Fishery. The MRAG Americas Certification Committee has determined that the fishery meets the requirements for a well managed and sustainable fishery. This decision is a determination and not the final certification result.
The MSC requires posting of this final report for 15 working days (from 28th May 2010) to allow stakeholders to file a statement of objection to the determination conclusion.

Sian Ka’an Banco Chinchorro biosphere reserves spiny lobster Fishery
MRAG Americas announces that the Sian Ka’an Banco Chinchorro spiny lobster fishery has completed a site visit and that analysis and writing of the assessment report is underway. More information on the assessment is available through the MSC.
Southeast US North Atlantic Swordfish Fishery and Bigeye and Yellowfin Tuna Fishery
MRAG Americas announces that the MSC assessments for the US Southeast swordfish fishery and the US Southeast bigeye-yellowfin tuna have entered the data gathering phase. The assessments will use the MSC Fishery Assessment Methodology version 2.1 , and proposes to use the risk-based framework for Principle 2 performance indicators 2.1.1, 2.1.2, and 2.1.5.
MRAG Americas announces that it will hold a site visit as part of the MSC assessments of the Southeast U.S. North Atlantic swordfish (Xiphias gladius,) bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus) and yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) handline buoy gear and pelagic longline fisheries. The site visit will occur in and around Miami FL from 9-12 August 2010, with a public session on the 11th and 12th. The fisheries operate in the exclusive economic zone of the United States off the U.S. east coast south of 31° N Latitude.

Confirmed Team Members for the Southeast US North Atlantic Swordfish Assessment and Bigeye and Yellowfin Tuna Assessment
MRAG has confirmed the assessment team members for the Southeast US North Atlantic Swordfish assessment and Bigeye and Yellowfin Tuna assessment.
Dr. Rebecca Mitchell, a fisheries ecologist with 11 years professional experience, including 5 years post-doctoral experience working at MRAG.
Dr. Graeme Parkes, a fisheries scientist with 21 years’ experience.
Dr. Joseph Powers, a professor of stock assessment in the School of the Coast and Environment, Louisiana State University.
